FOKUS at IFA’08 – Convergence and Community – interactive, personalized, mobile, and location-based

At this year’s IFA – the world’s largest fair for consumer electronics – the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS is presenting its latest innovations which put the accent squarely on ‘prosumers’ – producers and consumers of media services and content at one and the same time.

Exhibits like ‘Interactive, personalized IPTV’ and ‘Web in your Hand’ present solutions that satisfy needs for the shared use of broadcasting, Internet and (tele)communications services, while also enabling rapid realization of services in disparate media such as Web 2.0 services on mobile end devices.

Interactive and personalized IPTV means integration of interactive content, personalized advertising and context-dependent add-on information in traditional broadcasting environments, and is one of the highlights at this year’s IFA presented by the FOKUS Media Interoperability Lab. What’s more, innovations in communication between various end devices will also be on show which give users a shared media experience even over remote distances.

A Showcase developed in partnership with television’s RTL Group will also demonstrate new forms of target group specific advertising in linear and non-linear media formats.

Web in your Hand, Widgets as a platform for mobile Web2.0 –
Shared experiences and spontaneous communication between large numbers of people is a hallmark feature of Web2.0. Fraunhofer FOKUS brings ‘tiny’ self-contained Web applications – known as ‘widgets’ – to the mobile phone and also equips mobiles with all the functions of modern telephony.

Whether it’s mobile car sharing or digital location-based notepads – Web 2.0 services can be rapidly changed and extended both on the provider and the user side. Even without permanent Internet connectivity. Fraunhofer FOKUS presents FOKUS Mobile Widget Runtime in hall 5.3, stand 02.
