Actuator based on an electroactive polymer

This new type of actuator consists of a pre-stressed dielectric elastomer (electroactive polymer) that is inserted into a tubular structure with flexible walls (e.g., a hose). High voltage conducted through connected electrodes causes the elastomer to expand.
