Channels for metal casting
Foundries need ceramic channels to cast
molten light metals into the moulds. Traditionally casting channels are made of oxidic substances such as silica based or aluminium titanate ceramics (Tialit). A university now made an invention using the non-oxidic ceramic materials silicon nitride and SIALON for aluminium and magnesium casting. These – compared to the above mentioned materials – have much better properties such as lower wetting and a significantly higher strength. The thermal shock resistance is very good, too.
