Early and differential diagnosis test for Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer‘s disease (AD), widely regarded

as the most common cause of dementia, is a progressive neurological disorder. It can result in symptoms like memory loss, personality alterations and difficulty in communicating and performing routine tasks. AD is associated with a complete deterioration in the quality of life and exposes the sufferer to a number of other co-morbidities like depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and perhaps even injury. More than 40% of those 85 years of age and over may be affected. The diagnosis of AD as well as other diseases resulting into dementia is still a decision based on multiple sources of information that are considered simultaneously. The reason for this situation is that no single biological marker exists for AD or other dementias. The diagnostic methods used till today are such, which may detect AD only in relative late stage of the disease. In this invention 23 gene candidates were found encoding for specific proteins, in which the expression of them alters in AD comparing to control. Using these gene patterns each alone or in combination, may be used as molecular markers to provide an easy and rapid method for early Detection of those who will develop AD.
