A new Depot System for Proteins based on Vesicular Phospolipid Gels

The invention is a lipid based delivery systems based on a vesicular phospholipid gel (VPG) formulation comprising tightly packed liposomes. Protein encapsulation either within the liposomes or in-between them is achieved by dual asymmetric centrifugation. The unique structure of the gels according to the invention avoids any drug loss during manufacturing. Furthermore sensitive drug molecules such proteins can easily be encapsulated without any detrimental

effects on their three-dimensional structure and activity. The system provides a sustained protein release with an extremely low burst effect. The systems can be utilized preferably in local parenteral applications and beyond in many other aspects of human and animal health care.
