New class of Fungicides with novel Mode of Action

Pathogens like fungi fungi can cause dramatic damages in agriculture, resulting in critical losses of yield, quality and profit for most of the crops worldwide. Scientists of the University of Göttingen developed a new class of fungicides which are based on compounds with a new mode of action through inhibition of extra-cellular hydrolytic enzymes responsible for pathogens' plant penetration (i.e. amylases, cellulases, xylanases, etc.), stopping its penetration and expansion into the plant. Some active compounds are i.e. acarbose and miglitol. Our approach includes also a novel technology platform in order to find and to develop novel fungicides based on our novel mode of action.
