Apparatus and method for extrusion of a magnesium alloy profiles with enhanced compressive strength

Profiles made out of magnesium alloys combine a low weight with good mechanical strength and are therefore especially suited to be employed in the aerospace and automobile sector. However extruded profiles, made out of magnesium alloys, have anisotropic properties. There compressive strength is much lower than there tensile strength.

The technology offered enables the targeted adjusting of the mechanical properties, such as compressive strength of extruded magnesium profiles with enhanced. A counter pressure is created via a pressure chamber behind the outlet of the extruded profile. Adjusting the pressure ratio influences the compressive strength of the produced profile.
