Hannover Messe 2015 – Fraunhofer IDMT presents Micro-Sleep Alerter and Eyetracker

The Micro-Sleep Alerter by Fraunhofer monitors the eyes of the driver by video based analysis. Fraunhofer IDMT

Unlike other driver fatigue monitoring and warning systems, which usually analyze vehicle data and based on this recommend the driver to rest (by displaying a coffee cup symbol, for example), the Micro-Sleep Alerter by Fraunhofer monitors the driver by video based analysis.

If the driver keeps his eyes closed for longer than a half of a second, the system turns out an acoustic warning and the integrated LED changes its color from green to red. Similar to a GPS device, the Micro-Sleep Alerter can easily be installed and used by the driver.

I-R-P Computer & Prüftechnik Vertriebs-GmbH, located in Nuremberg, is currently preparing the mass-production of the first generation of the Micro-Sleep Alerter, which is expected to be placed on the market in summer 2015 as a device for being pluggable in any vehicle.

3D Monitoring of a person´s line of gaze

The second tool to be presented at the Hannover Messe, the Eyetracker, allows 3D monitoring of a person’s line of gaze. The Eyetracker detects the contours of individual pupils and analyzes the movement of the eye in real time. The system needs no calibration and works completely contact-free. The Eyetracker can be used for a wide range of diverse applications – for example, in medicine (for diagnosing eye diseases or as a surgical assistance system), in driving (for integrated use with driver assistance systems), or in various research areas (market research evaluating the effectiveness of sales promotion campaigns, for example).

Visitors may feel free to actively test both the Micro-Sleep Alerter and the Eyetracker at the Thüringer Gemeinschaftsstand (booth F34), which is located in Hall 4.
