New therapy strategies in lung melanoma and asthmatic diseases

Patients with metastasized melanomas have a poor prognosis and a low survival rate. Current therapies for melanoma-metastasis of the lung include surgery dependent on metastasis migration as well as the application of combined chemotherapies. Latest clinical studies explore therapies with the cytokines interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), in contrast to the common strategies. In experiments these cytokines have shown to potently inhibit the development of different tumors, especially of lung melanomas. So far this has not led to any therapy improvement, though.
