The successful transfection or infection is a limiting factor in the development of a cell line, which is to be used for heterologous protein expression or for vaccine production. Viral infection and liposome-based transfection depend on endocytic processes. Endocytosis is a general process by which cells absorb molecules by engulfing them. This enables the uptake of compounds, which cannot pass through the hydrophobic cell membrane
