Innovative fiber-optic connection system simplifies installation and saves space in the control cabinet

The LC connector according to IEC 61754-20 features an innovative “push-pull” release mechanism for easy installation of FO cables in network components with LC sockets, for example the modular Industrial Ethernet Switches X308-2M, XR-300 and X-300EEC from Siemens.

The innovative release mechanism combines a pair of joined connectors, one for the incoming and one for the outgoing FO cable, into a duplex connector. The user then simply connects this to two sockets on the network component, such as a switch. The new mechanism also ensures that the detent lugs of the two individual connectors are both unlatched together. This means that the user can simply detach the FO pair from the switch by gently pulling on the duplex connector.

The new connector technology makes it especially easy to handle network components with a large number of ports or compact dimensions. The performance capabilities and number of ports of network components is constantly increasing. The LC connection technique offers a space-saving mechanical solution here in line with IEC 61754-20.
