Summary: Micropumps for use in medical technology
Development of the next generation of micropumps for use in medical technology. The design is strictly guided by the aim of a high-resolution volumetric dosing, and the need to minimize device size and reduced power consumption.
After years of R&D the predominant micropump design is a silicon-based peristaltic micro-pump with a piezoelectric actuation scheme. One realized crucial novelty is the backpressure independent flow rate, which enables true volumetric dosing. The volumetric dosing pump can be optimized for a low flow regime, which is essential for modern medical therapies, e.g. in cancer treatment or pain management.
