ES – Glass-Edge-Shear compound-glass with high stiffness

Conventional laminated glass panes can not be called

connected in a shear compound because of their creeping interlayer. This connection is totally lost at temperatures of about 60° C. This means that considerable potential of load carrying capacity cannot be used at all. At the University of Wuppertal, Germany, a new edge shear bond-glass was developed (ES-Glass). The ESGlass uses conventional interlayer or casting resin with additionally inserted shear elements. These elements lead to an improved bond at higher temperatures. It could be proved that it is sufficient to arrange these elements at the edges or borders of the glass panel – which means the mostly of the frame covered part.
