Gentle Process for Making HgSe und HgTe Nanocrystallites

In a hitherto unknown, wet-chemical redox reaction, which can be very easily and rapidly accomplished, largely spherical HgSe or HgTe particle clusters having diameters <1 μm can be prepared under particularly mild conditions, whereupon each of these clusters consists of single particles of a few nanometers in size. Possible uses of such particle clusters are in the fields of semiconductor, laser, and information storage technologies, as well as photovoltaics and sensors.
