Fluorine MRI – Direct fluorine imaging for detection of inflammatory processes
The invention discloses non toxic perfluorocarbons
encapsuled in nanoemulsions which are ingested by circulating monocytes/macrophages. As a result these cells, which are strongly related to inflammation, are marked by 19F, so that their detection is possible by direct 19F MR imaging. Challenge Chronic inflammatory processes are often difficult to diagnose and specific treatment is therefore hampered in many cases. Accordingly there is a high unmet need for non-invasive diagnostic procedures, which not only provide anatomical information, but also functional data.
