Bioethanol Production – Increasing the Yield

Ethanol is becoming more and more important as biofuel blended with gasoline typically in varying quantities from E10 to E100 (100% ethanol). Currently, the top five ethanol producing countries achieve an output of 36 billion liters per year and the demand for ethanol will increase as countries promote the substitution of conventional fuel by alternative fuels.

Researchers at the Technische Universität Berlin have successfully developed a strategy for modifying yeast cells that leads to an increased yield of ethanol.
