Wasserverschmutzung schneller nachweisen
Ein Verfahren zur schnelleren Analyse von Wasserverschmutzung hat die australische Griffith University in Zusammenarbeit mit der Lincoln University in Neuseeland entwickelt. Organische Verschmutzungen können jetzt innerhalb einer Stunde nachgewiesen werden.
Bei der alten und bei der neuen Methode wird die organische Verschmutzung anhand des biochemischen Sauerstoffbedarfs in einer Wasserprobe gemessen. “Das bisherige Messverfahren dauert aber fünf Tage”, sagt Dr. Richard John vom Institut für Umweltwissenschaften und Angewandte Naturwissenschaften der Griffith University. “Leider ist die Genauigkeit dieses Verfahrens fragwürdig, es ist nicht wiederholbar und kann nur von erfahrenen Mitarbeitern ausgeführt werden.” Problematisch sei die bisherige Methode vor allem dort, wo rasche Ergebnisse nötig sind. “Die Technologie, die wir entwickelt haben, erlaubt uns, Verschmutzungsquellen schneller zu bestimmen, und Betreiber von Kläranlagen können ihre Reinigungsverfahren schneller überprüfen.”
