DuPont™ Zytel® HTN can make rugged parts for potable hot water use

NSF International has certified two grades of DuPont™ Zytel® HTN PPA for potable hot water applications. The certification gives manufacturers of water heaters and other equipment two new material options for engineering tough, strong, cost-effective components.

The resins, Zytel® HTN51G35HSLR BK420 and HTN51G45HSLR BK420, are now certified under NSF/ANSI Standard 61, Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects for hot water contact for fittings, pipe and various other parts such as valves or manifolds in contact with hot water. To receive this form of certification, material samples are tested at 82 ºC. The resins contain 35 or 45 percent glass fibre reinforcement.

“Zytel® HTN delivers an outstanding balance of toughness, strength and stiffness with excellent retention of properties in long-term exposure to hot water,” said Kim Richmann, market development manager for water management applications at DuPont Engineering Polymers.

Thanks to its excellent molding properties, Zytel® HTN offers designers opportunities for integrating the functions of several metal parts into a single molded part. “This can result in significant cost savings with no sacrifice in part performance or quality,” said Richmann.

The DuPont Engineering Polymers business manufactures and sells Crastin® PBT and Rynite® PET thermoplastic polyester resins, Delrin® acetal resins, Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomers, DuPont™ ETPV engineering thermoplastic vulcanizates, Minlon® mineral-reinforced nylon resins, Thermx® PCT polycyclohexylene dimethylterephthalates, Tynex® nylon filaments, Vespel® parts and shapes, Zenite® liquid crystal polymers and Zytel® nylon resins and Zytel® HTN high-performance polyamides.
