Media Invite: European Marie Curie Conference 2005

’Making Europe more attractive for researchers’ – The Conference is organised jointly by European research centres, universities and industry, with the support of the European Commission and will take place in Tuscany (Pisa/Livorno), Italy, between 28th and 30th September 2005.

Press conference: 30th September 2005, 12:10-12:45 hrs in Livorno (Goldoni Theatre – centre of the Town)

The conference will be held:
28th, 29th September 2005 – Pisa (CNR Researcher Centre S. Cataldo)
30th September – Livorno (Goldoni Theatre – centre of the Town)

The focus will be on research career opportunities in Europe and how these could contribute to the Lisbon objectives by reinforcing the human potential in research.

A wide range of topics will be covered either as key-note addresses or workshops and debates:

• How to plan a research career
• Public understanding of science
• Employability of researchers – industry and academia
• Interdisciplinarity of research

In addition, there will be the opportunity to discuss the “European Charter for Researchers” and the “Code of conduct for the recruitment of researchers” followed by a discussion on their implementation and impact.

The European Marie Curie Conference 2005 “Making Europe more attractive for researchers” aims to provide a forum for Marie Curie Fellows from across Europe to exchange their scientific knowledge and mobility experiences. The event will also provide opportunities for the Fellows to learn of and discuss current and existing possibilities to enhance their career perspectives within the European Research Area. Conference participants will be able to develop communication and other complementary skills by, for example, presenting research results to non-specialist audiences, consisting of contemporary Marie-Curie Fellows from a broad range of disciplines and sectors, to policy makers and to journalists.

An additional aspect will be to exchange views with policy makers, administrators (from public and private research organisations), and the European Commission and industrial enterprises, on research career opportunities in Europe.
