European One-Stop Agency for the Analysis and Assessment of Genetically Modified Plants Started in Germany

The Innovative Regional Growth Core “BioOK” aims to establish the region Rostock-Schwerin – especially the AgroBioTechnikum Groß Lüsewitz – as a competence centre for the analysis, assessment and monitoring of agro biotechnological products and methods. Partners from science and economy co-operate to develop new, efficient and cost effective methods and to bring them to market in the One-top-Agency BioOK GmbH. The Initiative started with funding by the German Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF.

The network BioOK offers a complete portfolio of analytical procedures for risk assessment of genetically modified plants. BioOK is a confederation of five companies, one Steinbeis Transfer Centre and the University of Rostock. The partners of BioOK hold long-standing experience in essential procedures for the assessment of food, feed, pharmaceutical and pesticide security. These methods will be adopted in order to analyse environmental and food/ feed risks of genetically modified plants and to develop new, simple, standardised, fast and legal procedures. The German Ministry for Education and Research funds these research projects of BioOK .
