All equipment mounted on the roof of the Velaro, such as HVAC system and braking resistors, is completely hidden, and the spoiler, nose and front section have been aerodynamically optimized.

All these features give the train its distinctive design. And, inside the train, a balanced combination of direct and indirect lighting creates a unique feel-good ambience. LEDs are used to reproduce individual daytime atmospheres.

The Velaro family has been developed for the world market. Completely different variants can be configured based on a common platform. Individual requirements with regard to capacity, comfort and service offer can be optimally fulfilled.

The distributed traction concept with two bogies per individual car provides the maximum usable floor space and a high degree of flexibility in the design of the interior. This modular design makes it possible to accommodate even season-related demands as the interior furnishings can be altered quickly and easily.

The Velaro can travel at speeds up to 360 km/h. The traction equipment is distributed; in this case, all traction components are mounted under floor. As no space is taken up by a power car, up to 400 m of the train interior is completely available for use.

The trains are suitable for four climate zones and can be adapted for the desired track gauge. The Velaro has been designed with four-system capability, it can run on the four commonly used line voltages and is ideal for cross-border operations.

The Product discipline of the iF design award comprises 17 categories and is traditionally that part of the competition with the most entries. More than 3,200 products were submitted to the jury in 2015.

Since 1953, iF has dedicated itself to the organization of design competitions and the award of a world-renowned seal of quality for excellent design and outstanding services.
