Young stars ejecting plasma could give us clues into the Sun’s past Kyoto, Japan — Down here on Earth we don’t usually notice, but the Sun is frequently ejecting huge masses of plasma into space. These are called coronal mass ejections (CMEs). They often occur together with sudden brightenings called flares, and sometimes extend far enough to disturb Earth’s magnetosphere, generating space weather phenomena including auroras or geomagnetic storms, and even damaging power grids on occasion. Scientists believe that when…
DUTiX is a hardware- und power-efficient transmitter architecture for modern, digital-centric radio transmitters, suitable for mobile communication, connectivity, WiFi and other radio applications. The core of the invention is a dedicated digital signal processing block which enables a direct transfer from baseband (BB) to local oscillator (LO) domainallowing arbitrary sample ratios, and even works with a modulated LO as in polar transmitters. DUTiX is suitable for all modulation techniques and schemes, including IQ modulations as QAM and OFDM, there are no limitations for all applications. The clock domain crossing is realized in three steps. After clock domain synchronization, the baseband data is upsampled employing a novel, highly-efficient filter which combines the classical polyphase filter approach with lookup tables and a linear filter coefficient interpolation. The filter uses common FIR filter coefficients. A time control unit calculates the correct sample positions and required interpolation steps depending on the both BB and LO clocks and reliably avoids sampling errors.
