More than 100,000 foreign first-semester students in 2013

Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, compared with the previous year, their number increased by 5.8% to over 100,000 for the first time ever.

On the whole, 507,100 first-semester students started studying at German institutions of higher education in the academic year 2013.

This was an increase of 2.4% on a year earlier.
