Innovative Fuel Sensors Enhance Vehicle Fuel Type Detection

The spontaneous emission of light out of an excited state of an electron is called fluorescence. The fluorescence of a molecule is a multidimensional parameter which includes the spectra, the intensity and the decay time. The time resolved laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy was used to distinguish different types of fuels different suppliers like Aral, Shell, OMV and CNPC. The three dimensional diagrams show the fluorescence intensity as a function of emission wavelength and decay time. Those diagrams could be used to determine the characteristic fuel fluorescence parameters, which allow the identification of the different fuels.
