New Simatic I/O Modules Achieve SIL 3 Safety Standards

The new Simatic modules ET 200M 24 F-DI, ET 200M 8 F-DO and ET 200M 10 F-DO are now able to meet the requirements of the safety levels SIL 3/ Cat. 4 / PL e in mixed operation with standard modules, without the need of a safety protector.

These new modules have been equipped with PROFIsafe-Profil 2.0, enabling them to be used in Profinet networks also in connection with PN/DP couplers. In addition, an acknowledgement is possible after a voltage drop. The narrow 40-millimeter design of the ET 200M 10 F-DO is now suitable for a cable length of 1,000 meters, offers P/P switching (current sourcing) and has a switched current of two amperes per channel.

Furthermore, each new module comes with the “last valid” function, i.e. which provides the last valid state, and “energize to trip” functions, for example, to provide the last value. Such functions are especially advantageous in fire and gas applications. In the case of module ET 200M 8 F–DO with its P/M switching function (current sourcing/sinking) and switching capacity of two amperes per channel, the maximum cable length is now 200 meters.
