The human integrin avß6, which is usually undetectable in normal adults cells, but highly upregulated in different types of cancer, is an emerging target for therapy as well as imaging across several common tumor types. However, only few ligands are known so far that are highly active for avß6 integrin and at the same time possess no binding affinity toward other RGD-recognizing integrins. Furthermore, their metabolic instability, their high molecular weight and the complexity of their structures limit their medical application.
This problem could now be solved by the present invention. The peptides according to the invention show a remarkable affinity for avß6 and high selectivity against other integrins.
The newly developed sheet metal composite material can be used for a wide range of applications in the automotive sector as well as in the field of mechanical engineering and manufacturing of deep-drawn part. In relation to its weight, the material possesses a high level of rigidity which can be adjusted to meet specific requirements.
The new hybrid material consists of two individual panels bonded via a viscoelastic layer, which has damping properties. Because the material has one plane outer surface paint finish can be applied and flow properties can be enhanced by adding nanostructures, for example.
Researchers from Goethe University Frankfurt am Main have developed a portfolio of silylene-based chemistry allowing for the synthesis of defined oligo- and polysilanes from trichlorosilane and hexachlorodisilane. The combination of the new technologies offers an alternative to the conventional energy-consuming silicon chemistry and access to new compounds.
The innovation is a device for workpiece orientation that exactly positions the tool during the transformation process for its adaption. (E.g. sawing, bending, welding, drilling, grinding, etc
The present invention includes a measuring system which is specifically engineered for the attachment of the device “Polar Equine RS800 CX” to large animals. It consists of an elastic stretch material which does not restrict the freedom of movement and breathing during the measurement. The measuring belt contains wide velcro-fastener and buckle systems and can thus be adapted to the individual chest sizes of large animals. It also contains leather bags in which the electrodes, the transmitter and, if necessary, the receiver can be stowed in order to protect them from environmental influences. The leather bags are attached to the measuring belt by using velcrostraps. Thereby they can be positioned variably along the belt at different positions. The belt system has already been completed with the help of a saddler. Its function – especially its fitting has been proven in case of longterm measurements (for example over a period of 24 hours). It is also be suited for field measurements.
Within a project of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung a novel surface technology has been developed that can hold gas molecules between a surface and surrounding liquids. Such a material could be extremely useful in shipbuilding rendering toxic anti-fouling coatings obsolete and simultanously reducing frictional resistance between vessel and seawater, thus saving fuel.
The novel system for combined diagnosis and therapy, described here, allows for a radiographic examination for diagnostic purposes and therapeutic irradiation to be implemented using only a single device. This combination of therapy and diagnostics ? theranostics ? provides great advantages towards the current course of action, esp. time- and cost-reduction.
Improved sprayer for the application of pesticides. The invention ensures that yawing and rolling movements of a field sprayer are compensated, that output quantities of such chemicals are evenly distributed in the field.
The present invention is based on the discovery of a so far unrecognized anatomic compartment within liver tissue that is formed by myeloid cells. These intrahepatic myeloid cell aggregates support local T cell expansion (iMATE) presumably by generating a cocoon-like structure that prevents hepatic regulatory cues to affect T cell proliferation within iMATEs.
This new observation can be exploited for the use of a vaccination strategy.
Short Description of the Invention: The invention enables the use of electrically insulating flanges for the connection of tubing with high internal pressures at high temperatures. The mechanical integrity of these flange connections is highly constrained by the used ceramic material. The invention enables the decoupling of the preload force from the insulating element under the stress of the internal pressure. Moreover, it allows the electrically insulating element to be only partially fabricated from ceramic material, such that it can be used in conformity with the European pressure equipment directive.
The invention describes a mechanism, in which the ultrasonic impulse is time encoded, by adding a time signal to the main pulse. By alternating between time encoded and normal impulses, it is possible to determinate which of the received signals was send at an even or an uneven cycle. Faulty echo detection is prevented by this method, along with the possibility to double the sending frequency, which leads to twice the penetration depth. Furthermore it is possible to encode the ultrasonic impulse further by using amplitude modulation. With this mechanism, the received signal is spited into a measurement and a encoded signal. By doing so, it is possible to allocate time and volume information to the received signal. Because of this allocation, the occurrence of artifacts is further reduced, which leads to a higher quality of ultrasonic scans.
Efficient processing and surface expression of tumor antigens are a prerequisite for successful immune-based cancer therapies. Unfortunately, spatial distribution of antigens is very difficult to determine with standard histological techniques. So cells might harbor tumor antigens inside the cytoplasm, but lack the appropriate MHC I or MHC II presentation on their cell surface. The current invention discloses a simple method to determine MHC-restricted presentation of any antigen of interest on the cell surface.
The new developed laser welding technology serves the parti-cle-free encapsulation of seal electronics against dust, humidity and gases.
The invention concerns a sensor for the magnetic field gradient and applies micromechanical structures. Lorentz-forces excite these structures whereas the vibrational modes are excited by the respective components of the magnetic gradient. This allows highly selective measurements of the respective gradient components. The invention was made by researchers of the Vienna University of Technology.

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPU) have segmented configuration consisting of macrodiol as flexible soft block, and a combination of diisocyante and chain extender as a rigid hard block. Advantages are suitable mechanics, biocompatibility and biodegradability.
The present invention relates to the use of Tyrosylprotein Sulfotransferase (TPST) and addresses the challenges of posttranslational modifications in plant-based protein expression systems by enabling human-type Protein sulfation in plants.
Heat exchanger suitable for devices that also work under lowest temperature and that need a vibration protection with simultaneous optimal cooling.
The invention consists in a tool free connector unit for a modular furniture system, as shelves, space dividers, display furniture, and much more. The particular geometry of the three-piece system, including a clip-shaped closing element, ensures an outstanding stability, which is a critical aspect in many other screws-free systems already present on the market. The assembly and disassembly can be easily performed by anyone without specific competences and completely tools-free. Assembly and disassembly procedures do not damage the components which are designed to survive several relocations. A patent application has been filed in Germany and several prototypes of modular furniture including Qlick have been produced and successfully tested.
