Global Radiologists Enhance Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Skills

Participants also had the opportunity to take part in hands-on workshops, gaining vital first-hand experience in hand and wrist ultrasound. Twelve industry exhibitors also took part in the congress and showcased a range of cutting-edge radiological equipment and technological innovations.

This year's meeting marked the ESSR's 19th annual congress and its second time hosting a congress in Austria. The hands-on workshops proved to be particularly popular (with more than 150 applicants) and they allowed participants to learn and practice ultrasound techniques for the hand and wrist. In all, the meeting boasted almost 100 faculty members from around the world and it proved to be an ideal opportunity for beginners and experts to hone their skills in the field of musculoskeletal radiology.

The ESSR has always been keen to include non-members in its meetings and this year's congress attracted a great number. The congress president, Dr. Andrea Sabine Klauser, said ahead of the event, “The 19th ESSR annual meeting is open to all radiologists and clinicians with an interest in musculoskeletal imaging, both members and non-members of ESSR. Young colleagues and students are warmly invited to join our annual congress and to present their scientific work.”

The ESSR is dedicated to improving diagnosis and treatment in musculoskeletal medicine through imaging. It supports and promotes research throughout Europe and its annual congress is the ideal occasion for much of this research to be presented and shared. The ESSR is a subspecialty society affiliated with the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and its annual congress is held with the organisational and administrative support of the ESR office.

Next year the ESSR will hold its annual meeting in Marbella, Spain, on June 13-15, 2013, with its organisers confident of another large turnout.
