KERatin – 3D artificial skin models mimicking normal skin as well as genetically caused keratinisation disorders
The model is characterized by the following advantages:
– a collagen-fibroblast matrix and a fully stratified and cornified epidermal layer of primary human keratinocytes – epidermal basal layer and terminal differentiation – barrier function is present (normal skin) or reduced (disease model) – no early hyperkeratosis – able to mimic single gene caused keratinisation disorders, e.g. congenital ichthyosis, which also shows similar characteristics like aging skin
