NODinh – Novel specific NOD2 inhibitors with anti-inflammatory properties

Pharmacological inhibition of inflammatory responses in humans is pivotal in a wide variety of disease states. A prominent protein associated with inflammatory processes in general is NOD2. Polymorphisms in the NOD2 gene correlate with several specific inflammatory disorders such as Crohn`s disease, Blau syndrome and early onset sarcoidosis.

The present invention provides innovative small molecules that are potentially beneficial not only for the treatment of genetic disorders, but also for the treatment of bacterially induced inflammations in humans. Data suggest that, in comparison to currently available antiphlogistics, a therapeutic application of the inventive compounds is associated with a significantly reduced side-effect-profile. Furthermore, the compounds can be used as starting points for anti-inflammatory drug discovery.
