Reactive gas-filled vapour cells are particularly used in atomic clocks. They provide the time standard by serving as cavity element. The time is obtained by the hyper-fine structure transition from alkali metal atoms such as cesium or rubidium.
The invention enables safe handling with these reactive materials and hence, enables a parallel production. Furthermore, the technology will be applicable for mobile satellite navigation systems, synchronisers in communication networks and magnetic field sensors.
