Ifapsoriasin Fragments: New Antimicrobial Peptide Insights
The presence of ifapsoriasin (IFPS, fillagrin-2), a novel skin- and mucosaspecific S100 fusion type protein, at the surface of skin and mucosa, particularly where moisture-requiring soil bacteria may grow, reveals its potential as innate defense factor in the protection of body surfaces from infection with soil bacteria. This invention concerns peptide fragments of IFPS which are highly active against P. aeruginosa and other Pseudomonas species. IFPS may be used in the therapy of infectious diseases of epithelial organs and for infection prophylaxis at interfaces, especially of the skin, the nasopharynx, the eyes as well as the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts.
