Fibre-Optic Sensors: Enhancing Stability with Microspheres
The invention presented here permits the manufacture of mechanically stable micro-optodes (optical sensors) and thus solves the erosion problem encountered with the optodes manufactured up to now. The essence of the invention is the use of microspheres made of chemically cross-linked polymers, rather than coated with a polymer layer by dipping. The cross-linked polymers ensure that the microspheres are mechanically stable, and do not erode or disintegrate. Furthermore, the microspheres do not dissolve in organic solvents, but only swell in certain solutions.
