ELHY-LENK – Electrohydraulic Superposed Steering

Modern vehicle steering systems should not only be

comfortable to operate but also energy-efficient. Therefore, the steering systems currently available on the market are often fitted with electric motors that only consume energy during steering. The disadvantage with the electric drive is low steering power and therefore the steering system can only be used in light vehicles. Hydraulic steering systems which, because of the unfavourable load profile, cause high power losses and therefore unnecessary fuel consumption continue to be used in vehicles with high axle loads. Possible functions for superposing the steering angle and adjustable steering wheel torque that can be integrated into steering systems ensure additional comfort. As a result, the steering transmission ratio and the power provided for steering assi stance can be adapted to the drive situation. Steering stability and parking aids can also be provided for the vehicle because of additional torque superposition.
