Prodrug for tumor therapy

The world market for cancer diagnosis is estimated to be 3.5 billion dollars for 2010. Scientists at the University of Goettingen identified a new diagnostic tumor marker, which shows a general recognition of almost all cancers, an early detection of tumors and a very close causative link to cancer development. Thus, in the nearby future, this marker could also be used as a target for cancer therapy, as seen in first proof of principle experiments. The use in diagnostics of this new tumor marker would be ideal for first line of regular screening and for monitoring of a cancer therapy.
