

Short meso- and nanofibers have a multitude of potential applications, for instance in optics, electronics, in filtration applications and galenics. However, the manufacturing processes known so far almost always yield endless fibers. In general, the fiber ends weld to each other or are otherwise deformed during shortening.<br><br>
In contrast, the invention on hand provides a process that enables the appropriate dimensioning of meso- and nanostructures without deforming them or welding them to each other. It has been found that electrospun fibers, in particular, can be cut advantageously, if the fibers themselves or the cutting tools are sufficiently cooled.
