CADA to 5AVA - Bacterial production of 5-aminovalerate from cadaverine


Limitation of natural sources, especially of fossil resources, for base material that is currently used to produce polyamides and related composites together with the increasing demand of these products, promotes the search for renewable sources of the base material. Fermentation by genetically engineered bacteria gains increasing interest as one of these possible sources. Cadaverine is a biogenic amine that can be produced by Corynebacterium glutamicum from the amino acid lysine by heterologous expression of a lysine decarboxylase from Escherichia coli. Overexpression of the patA and patD genes from Escherichia coli in Corynebacterium glutamicum enables the latter to further metabolize cadaverine to 5 aminovalerate (5AVA), which is a potential base material for the production of nylon 5 and a C5 platform for the synthesis of base materials for other polyamides. Chemical industry is facing an increasing demand on polyamides and related composites, whereas in contrast the accessibility of base material from fossil sources for their production alleviates. Therefore, in seek for alternative and renewable sources, bacterial fermentation has become into focus in several chemical production areas. The offered invention provides such a source for nylon production and related composites.
