BAM puts a new search tool for dangerous goods packagings on the web

27.09.2007

BAM makes it possible to search on-line for all dangerous goods packagings approved by BAM, including intermediate bulk containers (IBC) and large packagings manufactured in Germany or abroad.

The search tool enables

- national and international users of dangerous goods packagings to quickly find packagings approved by BAM for their own special purposes and to quickly establish contact with the manufacturers,

- enforcement authorities, e.g. police, or inspection authorities to look up information for the use of specific packagings in searchable certificates of approval,

- transparency in the sensitive field of the transport of dangerous goods for all groups involved.

You can search for approvals, manufacturers and approval holders by packaging type codes, approval numbers or manufacturer identification codes. It is also possible to search for manufacturers of dangerous goods packagings, limited locally to countries or cities. The search results can be printed out as lists.

UN - 1A1/Y1.4/150/02/D/BAM 4711-XY
Example of a fictitious UN marking of an approved steel drum (bunghole type) with the packaging type code 1A1, the fictitious approval number 4711 and the fictitious manufacturer identification code XY

An extension of the search tool is under construction incorporating further search criteria such as technical characteristics (e.g. size, capacity) or performance characteristics (e.g. suitability for very dangerous, dangerous or less dangerous goods) as given in the middle section of the UN marking indicated above.

The search tool has been developed in co-operation with the FHTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences.

The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) is the competent authority in Germany for testing, approval and manufacturing controls of packagings for the transport of dangerous goods on road, rail, sea and air mode. Packagings manufactured according to these approvals may be used world-wide.
