Efficient engineering system for all Simatic controllers

For Simatic Step 7 V11, based on the Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal), the new central engineering framework, the programming editors S7-SCL, S7-Graph, LAD, FBD and STL have been completely newly developed.

New functionalities provide increased efficiency and ease of operation for users to solve all their automation tasks quickly and intuitively. This includes the optimized SCL Compiler for S7-300/400, SCL as a third programming language for S7-1200, new functions in the programming languages LAD and FBD on the S7-1200, as well as the optional safety functionality.

Simatic Step 7 V11 is a newly developed engineering system for configuring, programming and diagnosing all Simatic controller families. Simatic Step 7 V11 offers the standardized operator input concept of the new, centralized TIA Portal engineering framework and uses its automatic data consistency and shared services such as configuration, communication and diagnostics. Thanks to object-oriented, centralized data management in the TIA Portal, changes to application data in a project are updated automatically for all devices such as controllers and operator panels. Entering data once at a single location increases efficiency in programming, improves project quality and reduces the probability of errors.

All the hardware is configured and networked in the fully-graphical “Device and Network View”. The controllers, HMI (human machine interface) devices, or even PCs, can be networked here by means of simple graphical configuring of the connections. In online mode, all diagnostics information is displayed at the click of a mouse in this view.

The newly developed, task-oriented and intuitive editors are efficient for experienced users, and they offer quick programming success for first-time users. New, user-friendly functions include a Favorites bar for frequently required commands, simple copying and pasting of program sections, and automatic recognition of possible commands or variables as they are entered. Functions such as Calculate Box, indirect addressing, Multiplexer, Demultiplexer and implicit data type conversion have been added to the LAD and FBD editors for the Simatic S7-1200 controllers. Special attention was paid to the further development of the high-level language editor S7-SCL that is suitable for complex calculations and algorithms. S7-SCL is now also available for the Simatic S7-1200 controllers, and the compiler has been optimized for the Simatic S7-300/400 controllers. New features include clear online representation of the current values, and simple testing of program code with breakpoints. In the case of graphical program creation with S7-Graph, the new library concept of the TIA Portal provides benefits as know-how and data can be re-used. Project sections that have already been created, such as program blocks, variables, monitoring tables, configured modules or complete stations, can be re-used, either within a project using local libraries, or across project boundaries with global libraries.

Simatic Step 7 V11 is available in the versions Step 7 Basic V11 for the S7-1200 controllers, and Step 7 Professional V11 for all Simatic controller families including S7-1200. Included in both versions is Simatic WinCC Basic V11 for configuring the Simatic HMI Basic Panels. For Step 7 V11 Professional, there are the optional packages PID Professional V11 for controller configuring, with the functionality of the previous Standard PID Control and Modular PID Control options, as well as Easy Motion Control and Step 7 Safety V11 for the fail-safe Simatic controllers. Users of standard and safety-related programs benefit here especially from the intuitive engineering and uniform operator input concept. The Step-7 V5.5 optional packages SCL, Graph, PLCSim, DocPro and Teleservice are integrated into Step 7 Professional V11 and do not require any additional licenses.

Existing automation solutions can be re-used: Migration of the existing hardware configuration and the program code of all five programming languages S7-SCL, S7-Graph, LAD, FBD and STL to Simatic Step 7 V11 is ensured. Integration of future software products into the TIA Portal means that the user benefits from long-term investment security. For example, commissioning of inverters from the Sinamics drives family is integrated at a later expansion stage, allowing users to solve automation and drives tasks in one go with Step 7 and WinCC.
