Prevention and Diagnosis of Fungal Infection

The invention concerns a procedure for the prevention and diagnosis of fungal infection of vegetable, especially salad plants. Lettuce rot is a common disease of several lettuce varieties. On 81% of the fields in which infected plants were found, the fungus Rhizoctonia solani AG 1-IB was identified as the cause of lettuce rot. The present invention makes it possible to isolate DNA from samples of soil or plants and to detect the lettuce rot fungus R. solani directly.
