Pathogen resistance to plants and increased biomass by carbohydrate alteration
Carbohydrates are generated by photosynthesis in green plant cells. In higher plants
they are transported from green tissues (source tissue) to other parts like roots or fruits (sink tissue). In sink tissues carbohydrates are metabolized depending on the requirements and serve as energy source, reserve and structural substance. On the other hand, pathogens live on plants produced carbohydrates. In the end, carbohydrates influence yield dependent on how much carbohydrates are available for the plant body.
