Improved detection of explosives

Explosives based on nitroaromatics have previously been detected using ion-mobility spectrometry (IMS) as anions. The technology upon which this invention is based combines IMS with laser-based photodetachment spectroscopy, thereby facilitating not the detection, but also the characterization, of anions.
