High-resolution 3 He magnetometer to be used primarily in MRI spectroscopy, in particular lung diagnostics

MRIs are used predominantly in lung diagnostics. The innovation can be used as contrast agent. 3He is harmless when used as contrast agent and is already used in research for this purpose. Though modern MRIs can generate images from all body areas without any contrast agent, the use of 3He, in particular in examinations of the lungs, significantly increases the contrast and therefore the resolution, enabling cancer tumors or infections to be detected more efficiently.
Furthermore, the 3He magnetometer can be used in all forms of therapy that work using magnetic fields, such as thermotherapy with magnetic nanoparticles (nano-cancer therapy) that selectively impair tumor cells through heat. The magnetic fields used have to be adjusted individually before each therapy session.
