Clear investment decisions with the use of fuzzy logic

In his dissertation Relander examines the estimation of the success potential of Finnish software product companies using fuzzy logic. The dissertation is based on a wide survey of literature focusing on different success theories and models developed during approximately the last 25 years. On the basis of this analysis Relander concludes eight of the most central success factors which seem to contribute to the majority of the success variance.

The empirical portion of the research is based on 12 interviews, which validate the previously presented eight success factors. Validation is realized by means of the grounded theory method and the use of self-directing maps. In addition to interviews, the empirical portion includes a quantitative survey, which defines the parameters essential to fuzzy logic.

A concrete result of the dissertation is the production of a software program which enables venture capital investors to estimate the future success of their projected investments. The software is designed and constructed according to the principles of the design science policy and is being tested both in Finland and abroad. More broad and in-depth research is currently in progress and the next version of the software will be launched in the beginning of 2009.
