HHL Energy Conference on May 22-23, 2014 in Leipzig Under the Auspices of Sigmar Gabriel

Energy Storage and Transportation will be the focus of the HHL Energy Conference at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. This year’s Energy Conference will take place on May 22 and 23, 2014 under the auspices of Sigmar Gabriel (SPD), the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.

This is a unique conference where selected students and representatives from different companies have the chance to discuss current developments in the energy sector. The program includes a case study competition, panel discussions, expert presentations and networking events. Accommodation and catering will be provided for the participants.

A team of five students who voluntarily work in the HHL Energy Club are organizing the HHL Energy Conference. “The participants will enjoy two exciting days with renowned representatives from business, government and research sectors as well as students from all over Germany,” Luisa Wasilewski, M.Sc.-student and vice-president of the HHL Energy Conference, says.

Students can apply to participate in the conference until April 8, 2014 by sending an appealing CV to energyclub@hhl.de. Sponsors of the HHL Energy Conference 2014 include Siemens Management Consulting, MIBRAG, CTG Consulting, E.ON, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, and BearingPoint. http://www.hhl-energyconference.com

Main focus: Energy Storage and Transportation

Students from the oldest private business school in German-speaking Europe have chosen the subject of this year‘s HHL Energy Conference well. Energy storage and transportation are currently core issues of the respective sector. The expansion of renewable energy in Germany leads to a strong fluctuation in supply while seeing a consistently high demand. An intermediary solution are storage systems that store electricity in times of excess supply and feed electricity back into the grid in times of supply shortfall. The topic concerns not only representatives from the energy sector but from government and society as well. The HHL Energy Conference will focus on those areas and discuss possible questions, problems and solutions.

HHL Energy Club organizes the HHL Energy Conference

The organizers of the HHL Energy Conference are students from the MBA and M.Sc. Programs at HHL who by founding the HHL Energy Club have brought into being a unique initiative in Germany. Only a few international graduate schools (e.g. Harvard, Wharton, MIT or INSEAD) have similarly established Energy Clubs that were often founded by the students themselves, working together with regional and trans-regional companies.

The activities of the Energy Club student initiative at HHL aspire to be amongst the leading clubs to include discussions with industry experts, excursions to different energy companies and institutions as well as organizing the HHL Energy Conference. The energy sector that is also being represented in a Cluster operating in and around Leipzig, offers numerous opportunities for startups and interesting career prospects. Thus, establishing the HHL Energy Club indirectly provides impulses for regional development which is especially important in view of Leipzig’s aspiration in becoming one of the outstanding energy centers in Europe.
