MARINET – Free access to Europe’s marine energy R&D facilities

This is a unique opportunity for engineers and researchers to avail of state-of-the-art interlinked infrastructures and associated expertise, courtesy of funding from the European Commission. Deadline: 27th March 2013.

These 45 marine energy R&D infrastructures cover the wave, tidal and offshore-wind fields and include facilities such as wave tanks (some with simultaneous wind capabilities), tidal flumes, wind tunnels, offshore test sites, electrical labs, corrosion labs, moorings labs, wind and wave test site data etc.

The lead applicant and majority of members of the visiting team must be based in EU Member States or States associated with the 7th Framework Programme. Team members based outside the EU can also participate as long as they are not the majority in the team. The team must apply for a facility located outside their home country. MARINET also provides a financial contribution to assist the team with travel and accommodation costs.

Typical projects might be:
a group of researchers from a number of universities teaming up to test the combined effect of wind and waves on a floating offshore wind energy platform at a unique large-scale wave tank facility
a start-up company teaming up with their local university to test the efficiency of a novel energy conversion system at a world-class electrical research facility abroad

a wave energy company who wishes to bring their technology to the next level by testing a scaled prototype at a protected coastal test site which is located outside their home country.

How to apply
Go to www.fp7-marinet.eu for further details and to make an application. Call closing date is 27th March 2013.
