Mario Monti to receive ESMT Responsible Leadership Award

ESMT European School of Management and Technology has announced that the 2012 ESMT Responsible Leadership Award will be conferred upon Mario Monti, Prime Minister of Italy. The awards ceremony will take place on June 13, 2012 as a part of the 5th ESMT Annual Forum. The international business school will present the ESMT Responsible Leadership Award for the third time this year.

Past honorees include the co-founder and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies N.R. Narayana Murthy and Güler Sabancý, Chairman and Managing Director of Turkey’s Sabancý Holding.

“I am particularly proud to receive this award from ESMT, which since its founding has made the teaching the principles of responsible leadership to future business leaders an integral part of its mission,” said Mario Monti.

Before becoming Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Italy in November 2011, Mario Monti was President of the prestigious Bocconi University in Milan. He holds a doctorate in economics and was a member of the European Commission for almost ten years, first as Commissioner for Internal Market, Financial Services and Financial Integration Customs, and Taxation (1995-1999), and then for Competition (1999-2004). Mario Monti also served on the first ESMT Academic Board.

The 5th ESMT Annual Forum, held in cooperation with the International Leadership Association (ILA), will take place in Berlin June 13-15, 2012. The Annual Forum provides a platform for international opinion leaders from business, academia, and politics to debate issues concerning “Leading Across Generations”. The focus of this year's conference is on future workforce challenges and opportunities. CEOs of leading global companies and renowned academics will discuss topics such as workplace structures, mentoring and coaching, retention and motivation, and lifelong learning in a total of 18 sessions.

Key speakers at this year’s Annual Forum include Michael Diekmann (Allianz SE), Thomas Sattelberger (Deutsche Telekom AG) as well as Charles O'Reilly (Stanford Graduate School of Business) and Matthew Bothner (ESMT). Two panels will focus on “The Executive Perspective on Leading Organizations with a Multigenerational Workforce” and “Instilling Sustainability Practices in Multigenerational Leaders”.
