Arthritis-measuring device wins international awards

Fei Yam, a PhD student from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPSF) produced a unique innovation – the most sensitive measuring device for measuring a disease that haunts many societies around the world.

Fei Yam received a $500 cash prize and Graduate Travel Award worth $300 after he presented the findings in conjunction with the 7th Federation of Asian and Oceanian physiological Societies Congress.

Fei Yam said he did not expect to win alongside over 400 researchers from countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and others.

But, he said, innovations in the form of computer software capable of reading and interpreting data related to arthritis managed to steal the focus, thus proving highly relevant research at the international level.

“This win gives me enthusiasm to continue my commitment to continue the study until the technology has been commercialized,'' he said.

He said the research has also been published in major journals and has the attention of many, especially those directly involved in medical education and health.
