In 2030, what will the consumer want on his plate? What will the supermarket of the future look like? Which technologies will emerge? These important questions will be addressed during the conference ” Perspectives for Food 2030″ on the 17 and 18 April 2007 in Brussels. The Conference will debate policy and industrial development and anticipate research needs by 2030, set against a background of the diverse and increasingly important changes facing the European food industry. Perspectives for Food 2030 comes at the outset of the “Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology” theme of the new Research Framework Programme (FP7), and will provide the opportunity to assess how the food industry and consumer demand may evolve over the next 25 years and to consider what implications this may have for food, agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology research.

The Conference will be divided into four main sessions:

– Trends and Outlook in World Economics, Culture and Food;
– Drivers of Food demand and of the Market Today and Tomorrow;
– New Technologies for Food Production; and
– Future Perceptions of Food.
The conference will bring together major European and worldwide actors from the fields of food technology, retail, consumer science/behaviour, economy, etc. to gather visions of the future; including Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik and Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel.
