Wood Material Science Research Programme Homepage Opened

The Finnish-Swedish Wood Material Science Research Programme (2003-2006) has opened its homepage in the Internet. The web pages contain general information about the co-financed research programme, about its objectives and projects. There are also current information about the research programme and related events.

The Wood Material Science web pages are mainly focused to the researchers, companies, financing organisations and decision makers interested in wood material science and engineering. In addition, the pages act as the work environment for the organisations and researchers participating in the programme.

The Finnish-Swedish Wood Material Science Research Programme is a continuation to the Finnish forest cluster Research Programme Wood Wisdom (1998-2001). The objective of the ongoing research programme is to develop new eco-efficient and cost-effective products, processes and services in order to foster the competitiveness of forestry and forest-based industries by strengthening international multidisciplinary collaboration.

Wood Material Science on the first public and co-financed Finnish-Swedish research programme, which has been carried out in this extent. The basic research projects of the programme started in the spring 2003. These projects are financed by Academy of Finland, Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Formas), the National Technology Agency of Finland (Tekes) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Finland. The second sub-programme focusing on innovations started during the first months of the year 2004. The financing organisations are Tekes and Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA). The budget of the research programme is around EUR 20 million.

The web pages of the Wood Material Science Research Programme are a part of the programme entity Wood Wisdom, which also covers the WoodWisdom-Net project (2004-2007) building European wood material science programme, the Finnish Centre of Expertice for Wood Products and the previous Finnish Forest Cluster Programme Wood Wisdom.
