Hochschule für Bankwirtschaft

HfB, a stimulating environment for study and play

Hochschule für Bankwirtschaft (HfB) was founded in 1991 by the leading German banks, Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Bank, Commerzbank, HypoVereinsbank and ING BHF-Bank, to meet their needs in academic education in Banking & Finance. A private university of applied sciences, HfB has rapidly emerged as Centre of Competence for Research and Education in Banking & Finance.

HfB offers those benefits that only private educational institutions can offer: class sessions in small groups with a maximum of 30 students; attentive faculty available to students around the clock and not just during sparse office hours; class discussions and talks as main means of instruction; and a brand-new school building incorporating the latest technologies and offering the students a study environment that is at the same time stimulating and allowing them to focus on their studies.

Today’s business is about skills and networks

At HfB, you learn the skills and knowledge to manoeuver through the waters of Banking & Finance while at the same time joining the global financial community: first, already within your class and at HfB as an organization you will meet managers from various companies and industries, all focussing on topics around Banking & Finance.

This is strongly supported by the Alumni Network "HfB-Alumni e.V." (

And outside of HfB, the school has ties to a large array of financial institutions, including the large German banking powerhouses, subsidiaries of foreign banks, the European Central Bank, small financial boutiques and service companies, such as consultancies or IT companies. Thus, by studying at HfB you gain access to the global community of financial professionals.
